That innocent kids movie scene that messed me up later
I watched The Brave Little Toaster with my nephew last weekend and laughed at the air conditioner meltdown scene. Then I was lying in bed at 3am and realized that AC literally chose to destroy itself rather than face being replaced. Has anyone else had a kids movie moment that hit way darker the second time you thought about it?

Hang on, I have to push back on this. The AC meltdown scene isn't really about obsolescence. It's a comedy beat about a character having a tantrum because he's scared of change. The joke is that he burns himself out over nothing, like when a toddler screams about getting a new pair of shoes. If you want to talk about facing death in a kids movie, look at Bambi or The Lion King where a parent actually dies. That's heavy. The Brave Little Toaster is just quirky appliances being dramatic. It only feels dark if you go looking for a meaning that isn't there.

Read somewhere that the whole movie is basically about facing obsolescence and death which is pretty heavy for a cartoon.
