Stuck between the studio grind and going solo

I've been at this place forever, but the cash just isn't there. The idea of running my own shop sounds great but also totally terrifying. For folks who left a steady job, how did you deal with the fear?

Nancy's point about the worst case is spot on. I used to fixate on that total failure idea too. What changed my mind was going freelance and having one truly awful, slow month. I survived it by taking some basic design gigs I'd normally pass on. The fear of the worst thing actually happening, and then dealing with it, was way less scary than the endless worry before the jump.

Consider how bad the money really is right now. That studio safety net might feel good but it's not paying your bills, right? Maybe the fear is just noise compared to the actual problem.

Okay but what's the actual worst that happens? You got a backup plan if the solo thing tanks at first?
