Warning: My flat design only move stirred things up

I began using flat design for every job last spring. It got my work looking clean and current, but some folks say it feels cold and too simple. Is flat design still worth using for fresh ideas or should we look elsewhere?

Feel your pain on this one. Pushed hard into flat design for a client project last year and got the same "it's sterile" feedback. Started playing with adding just one textured element or a warmer color spot to break it up. It kept the clean look but gave it a bit of soul, you know? Maybe the trick is using it as a solid base but not the whole meal.

Consider how flat design works for people who have a hard time seeing screens. The super simple shapes and high contrast @the_casey mentioned can be a big help, but only if you really focus on clear icons and spacing. Maybe the goal isn't just looking warm or cold, but making sure it actually works for everyone trying to use it.
