Showerthought: I'm convinced the Mary Celeste crew left for a plain reason, but folks call me boring.
Ship logs from that time often show quick exits. Any leads on good books or sites that cover this view?

Guess it's probably way overblown. I mean, ship logs from back then show quick exits all the time, right?

My grandpa kept a fishing log for Lake Erie that just said "fish bit, sun shone" for 40 years. Pretty sure I inherited his skill for leaving out all the interesting details when I write stuff down.

My friend Leo used to digitize old shipping records for a library. He told me about a log from the 1920s where a captain noted 'all calm, departed promptly' just before a storm hit. @patricia450, that kinda shows how logs can miss the scary stuff, right? Leo said folks back then often downplayed problems to keep insurers happy. So maybe the drama we hear now comes from filling in the gaps they left out.
