Tracking down the origins of my local park through newspaper clippings

I spent last weekend in the microfilm room at the library, piecing together how the park came to be. It was originally a farmer's field that the city bought in the 1920s, which feels wild to think about now. Has anyone else uncovered a simple origin story that blew their mind a little?

Our town square used to be a horse market, which I learned from an old photo caption at the historical society. It changed how I see the whole area.

No way, a horse market? That's wild to picture now with all the benches and grass. I always thought it was just a normal peaceful square, not a place with animals and people yelling about prices. Really changes what you imagine happened there before.

Actually that stuff never really blows my mind. Like @patricia_kelly finding a horse market, so what. It's just land doing different jobs over time. Knowing it was a field doesn't change the park now.
