Overheard a guy at the courthouse say he's been filing his own motions for 7 years

He claimed he saved like $15,000 in lawyer fees by just reading the rules of civil procedure online. Has anyone else tried doing that in Ontario for small claims stuff?

Jumped into small claims myself a couple years ago when my landlord tried to keep my deposit for made up damages. Read the Ontario Small Claims Court guide online and filed a Defendant's Claim, ended up winning and got my money back plus court costs. Biggest thing is you got to follow the deadlines exactly and use the right forms from the Ontario government website, they're pretty straightforward. Just keep your claim under $35,000 and bring three copies of everything to the courthouse. Saved myself around $3,000 in lawyer fees that time lol.

@wood.noah you got lucky, most people lose more in time than they ever get back from small claims.
