Overheard a detailer say something that made me stop cleaning my car so much

I was dropping off a client's poodle at a grooming spot next to a car detailing place, and I overheard one detailer tell another that 'every car has a smell pattern and you're just messing with its memory' when you deep clean the interior too often. He said customers who scrub everything down every week actually report more weird electrical issues and random sounds than people who just vacuum and leave it alone. I used to be the type to wipe down my dash and shampoo my seats every two weeks like clockwork. But after hearing that, I realized my car's radio has been acting up for months, static bursts that come and go for no reason. I've only vacuumed once in the last six weeks and honestly, the static seems quieter now. Has anyone else noticed their car acting strange after a really deep clean, or am I just reading into it?

That bit about 'messing with its memory' really stuck with me too. I read somewhere that car electronics are more sensitive to static electricity than people realize, and all that wiping and scrubbing can actually build up a charge. Makes me wonder if we're just giving our cars little shocks every time we deep clean them.

Static buildup is a real thing in electronics for sure, but I think deep cleaning a car is way different than working on a circuit board. You're wiping down dashboards and seats, not touching the ECU or wiring harness directly. The car's computer is pretty well shielded in its little box under the hood or behind the glovebox. A microfiber cloth on the steering wheel isn't going to zap the memory. I've cleaned out my old truck a hundred times, never had a single electrical glitch after.
