A buddy told me I was lifting with my back not my hips and it took 3 months to unlearn

I was doing deadlifts for like a year and my lower back was always sore the next day. A friend who used to compete just watched me one set and said bro you're hinging at your back not your hips. I spent the next 3 months in my garage filming myself with a phone propped on a toolbox. Still have to think about it every rep but my back pain is gone. Has anyone else had a small form tweak that took forever to fix?

That little hip hinge thing is crazy because it's like so many things in life where you think you're doing it right but you're actually just compensating with something else. Same thing happens with lifting heavy boxes at work, people bend at the waist instead of using their legs and then they're out for a week. The worst part is you can't just think "use hips" and it works, you have to unlearn the bad habit your body already locked in. Your buddy probably saved you from a real nasty injury down the road.

Whole life is like that... think you're doing fine but really just getting by.
