Overheard a well driller at the feed store say something eye opening

I was picking up feed for my chickens last Tuesday and this old well driller was talking to the guy behind the counter. He said most people who drill a well don't test the water until after the pump is in and wired up. That blew my mind because if the water is bad you just wasted all that money. He said testing the water first costs about 75 bucks and saves you from a 3,000 dollar mistake. I took a card from him and I'm gonna call next week to test my neighbor's spring before I even think about digging my own. Anyone else test their water source before hooking everything up?

Tbh that well driller's right, my buddy tested his water after and ended up paying for a whole new filtration system because it was full of sulfur.

Wait hold on, sulfur water is no joke. That stuff smells like rotten eggs and can ruin your plumbing and appliances over time. Your buddy probably didn't realize how bad it was until he got the test results back and saw the numbers. A whole new filtration system isn't cheap either, those sulfur specific setups can run you a couple grand easy. Makes me wonder if the well driller saw something during the drilling that tipped him off but didn't want to scare your friend upfront.
