My buddy Mike swore I'd hydroplane if I didn't replace my tires at 4/32 tread depth so I ignored him for 3 months

I hit a puddle on I-35 last Tuesday going 55 and spun out into the median, no damage but I had to change my pants after, anyone else get stubborn warnings from friends that nearly cost you big?

Hold on, people acting like 4/32 is driving on ice. I've run tires down to the wear bars plenty of times and never had an issue unless I was driving like an idiot in a monsoon. The real problem was going 55 into a puddle, not the tread depth. Tires matter sure, but your driving matters way more. I bet if you slowed down a little you would have been fine. Everyone loves to act like a tire salesman when something happens though.

...and you waited THREE MONTHS on top of that? Dude, 4/32 is already pushing it, especially if you drive anywhere near rain. I kept telling my neighbor his tires were basically slicks and he just laughed. He ended up sliding through a stop sign last spring, lucky he only hit a curb. That highway hydroplane is no joke, glad you're okay. Did Mike give you the biggest "I told you so" after that happened?
