I ditched the pulley system for a basic come-along to hang my drill press

Everyone says pulleys are the way to go for lifting heavy tools into place, but after fighting with rope slip and alignment for an hour, I grabbed a $25 come-along from Harbor Freight. I just hooked it to a ceiling joist and cranked the press up by myself in under 10 minutes. Has anyone else ditched the "proper" method for something janky that just worked better?

Oh man, 'janky that just worked better' might as well be my workshop motto at this point. I tried the whole pulley system once for my planer and spent more time rerouting rope than actually lifting. The come-along is basically the 'hold my beer' of workshop tools. If the ceiling joist doesn't complain and it doesn't crash down at 2 AM, you're golden in my book. Some things just don't need to be overthought, you know?

Respectfully gotta disagree man. A come along is sketchy if it slips or the hook lets go, and ceiling joists weren't built for that kinda side load. I'd rather spend a weekend building a proper lift than have my planer drop on my foot at 3 AM.
