That $30 pulley system gave out on me after 3 months
I had my 50 pound bench grinder hanging from a cheap pulley I rigged up last fall. It worked fine until last Saturday when I went to lower it and the rope snapped right at the knot. The grinder dropped about 4 feet and cracked the concrete floor in my garage. No damage to the tool luckily, but it scared me enough to rethink the whole setup. What kind of rope are you guys using for overhead storage that doesn't break the bank but actually holds up?

Did you try using a climbing accessory rope instead? I grabbed a 50 foot length of dynamic climbing rope from a discount bin at an outdoor store and it's held up my 60 pound planer for almost two years now with zero fraying. That stuff is way stronger than any hardware store rope and costs about the same as the cheap stuff if you catch it on clearance.

Tie a couple clove hitches on that climbing rope to spread the weight and it'll hold even better.
