Just ran the numbers on PPL vs Upper Lower for 8 months of my own logs. PPL gave me 12% more volume per week but Upper Lower had 28% better recovery scores.

Maybe that 12% extra volume was just junk volume that your body didn't need anyway.

Wait, so you tracked this for 8 months and the main takeaway is that one routine gave you more volume but the other let you recover better? Seems like you basically just proved that doing less work makes you less tired. Did you ever stop to think maybe that 12% extra volume was just junk volume that your body didn't need anyway? I bet if you looked at actual strength gains per rep, the Upper Lower probably caught up or even passed PPL since your recovery was actually letting your muscles rebuild properly.
