TIL my deadlift form was trash for 6 years until a random guy at Gold's Gym pointed it out
I was pulling 405 for reps but my lower back was always sore the next day. This older dude just walked up mid set and told me I was rounding my upper back like a cat. He showed me how to brace my core and pull the slack out of the bar first. Dropped down to 315 to fix the technique and now I'm back up to 425 with zero pain. Has anyone else had a random gym stranger fix a big mistake you didn't even know you were making?

That bit about pulling the slack out of the bar is exactly what a buddy of mine learned the hard way. He spent a year wondering why his lower back felt like hamburger after deadlifts until a random powerlifter showed him the same thing.

Yeah, that "pulling the slack" thing used to sound like gym bro voodoo to me until I tried it. Now I can't believe I ever pulled without it, total game changer.
