Spent $40 on a cheap soldering iron and it ruined my whole circuit board project
Bought one of those no-name irons from Amazon for like $40 because I didn't want to drop $150 on a Hakko. thing couldn't hold temp at all, ended up burning a trace on my Arduino shield and had to start over from scratch. anyone else learn the hard way that cheap tools just cost you more in the end?

Burned a trace" is a rite of passage, but that $40 iron probably cost you more in frustration than a quality one would've.

Honestly @hill.barbara, have you tried one of those $20 chinese soldering stations instead? I grabbed one from amazon years ago and it's been way more consistent than any cheap iron Ive ever owned.
