Am I the only one who thinks patching a swamp cooler line in July is a two person job?

My swamp cooler line started leaking in the attic on a 98 degree Saturday here in Albuquerque, so I grabbed a $6 compression fitting and tried to fix it solo. I got soaked, dropped the wrench through the ceiling, and ended up with a $75 drywall patch on top of the original leak. Do you all call someone for cooler repairs or just suffer through it yourself?
