My neighbor's 'free fix' for a leaky pipe made it 3x worse
Old guy next door told me to just wrap electrical tape around a pinhole leak in my copper pipe. It burst two days later and flooded my laundry room. Has anyone else gotten bad advice from a well-meaning neighbor?

Three years ago my neighbor Bert said he fixed a leaking toilet by pouring a gallon of bleach into the tank. I woke up at 3am to a waterfall in my hallway because it ate through the rubber seal. I'm convinced half the advice people give is just them hoping their own shortcuts didn't blow up in their faces yet.

My uncle Frank once told me vinegar would clean his coffee maker. He dumped a full bottle in and ran it three times, then his morning coffee tasted like pickles for two weeks. Makes you wonder how many of these "fixes" are just people passing along someone else's disaster before they find out.
