Spent about $80 on a new toilet fill valve and it fixed a weird noise I had for months

My toilet in the Northeast Heights was making this constant, quiet hissing sound that was driving me nuts (and probably wasting water). I finally replaced the old fill valve assembly myself, which was way easier than I thought, and the noise stopped completely. Has anyone else had a mystery noise turn out to be a simple toilet part?

Seriously, it's wild how often the fix is something so small. I mean, I spent weeks stressing over a drip sound that was just the chain hitting the bowl.

Oh man, that hissing is the worst! My guest bathroom did the same thing last year, just a low hum that you could hear in the dead quiet of night. I put it off forever, convinced it was some huge plumbing disaster. Turns out it was just the flapper not sealing right. A $10 rubber part and five minutes of my time, total silence ever since.
