The plumber who refused to fix my drip gave me a better answer

Last month a guy from Rio Rancho looked at my bathroom sink, said the valve was fine, and told me it's cheaper to just replace the cartridge for $18 than pay him $150 to rebuild it, so has anyone else had a pro talk themselves out of a job like that?
