My coworker said joining a rec kickball league in Austin would fix my sad Friday nights, and 5 months later she owes me an apology
I moved to Austin two years ago and every Friday I was just sitting at home eating takeout alone. My coworker Dana kept pushing me to sign up for the city rec kickball league, said it was the fastest way to make friends as an adult. I paid the $65 fee, showed up to the first game, and stood around for 40 minutes while everyone talked about people they already knew. Five months in and I have one guy's number who only texts me when his team needs a sub. Maybe it's just me but paying to join a group of strangers does not equal making friends, it just means you are lonely in a matching shirt. Has anyone actually built a real friendship out of one of these leagues or did I just waste 65 bucks and 20 Friday nights?
