My sister's 'we should meet up' text that I let sit for 3 months

She sent it last September from Chicago, where she moved for a job. I kept telling myself I'd reply when work slowed down, then the holidays came and it felt too awkward to resurrect. When I finally called her in January, she said she figured I was too busy for her and already made new friends there. I guess I thought adult friendship was about showing up when it's convenient, but she needed me to show up when it wasn't. Has anyone else let a good connection die just because you didn't want to be the one to text first after too much time passed?
