Saw how my buddy keeps his college buddies around by doing one check-in call a month

Compared that to my old group where we just waited for a wedding invite and now I haven't talked to half of them in 3 years, has anyone else found a simple habit that actually keeps old friends close?

Oh great, so the secret to eternal friendship is just a recurring calendar reminder now? @mila_sullivan is out here dropping truth bombs while the rest of us are out here treating our group chat like a defibrillator we only break out at weddings and funerals. Honestly, your buddy probably just found a fancy way to stay “in touch” without actually saying anything real. Meanwhile my old crew and I are like those toys where you pull the string and it says one canned phrase, then we go back in the closet for another year. Guess I’ll just set a reminder for 2028 and see if that sparks the magic.

Question whether a monthly check-in call is really keeping friends close or just keeping a contact list alive. I've got buddies I talk to once a year and we pick up like nothing changed, while other folks I text weekly feel like total strangers after a few months. Seems like it depends more on the friendship itself than the schedule. Maybe your buddy's group just naturally vibes that way, not because of the calls.
