My buddy called me out for ignoring my car's oil change light for 2 months straight

I used to think that light was just a suggestion, not an emergency. After my oil turned into sludge and cost me $1,200 in engine repairs at my own shop in Phoenix, I finally listen to it now. Has anyone else ignored a warning light way too long and paid the price?

My 2008 Civic's oil light came on and I drove it for a whole month before checking, then the engine started ticking like crazy. Had to spend $800 on a junkyard motor and learned my lesson the hard way.

Man, I don't know, I feel like people overreact about oil lights. My buddy drove his Accord with the light on for like three months and it's still going fine at 250k miles. Maybe these newer engines can't handle any abuse, you know?
