Hit 200 air fryer meals last night and realized I've been doing fish all wrong
I keep a little tally on my phone for every meal I cook in the air fryer, just to see if it's actually worth the counter space. Last night was number 200, a frozen cod fillet I threw in at 380 for 12 minutes. It came out flaky and perfect, but it got me counting back through all those meals and I realized I've been avoiding frozen fish for the first 150 of them because I thought it'd be gross. Turns out the trick is patting it dry with paper towels first and spraying a light coat of oil on the basket, not the fish. I wasted so many salmon portions in the oven that came out dry and sad. Now I'm wondering what else I've been sleeping on for 200 meals. Anyone else have a food they ignored for ages and then the air fryer fixed it?
Man, the fish thing hits home hard! I did the same with brussels sprouts for like two years. Thought they were bitter, mushy garbage from all those sad steamed versions my grandma made. Tossed them in the air fryer with some bacon bits and a little balsamic, and now they come out all crispy on the edges like little flavor bombs. I bet you're onto something with the patting dry trick too, I do that with wings and it makes a huge difference. What else have you tried since that felt like a total cheat code?
