Update: I wrote a story from the villain's view for a change

I always stuck with heroes, but last week I tried writing a prompt about a villain who thinks they're the good guy, and it unlocked a whole new side of the main conflict. The hero's actions suddenly seemed way more aggressive and less clear-cut from that angle. Has anyone else flipped a common prompt like that and been surprised by where it went?

They look for someone who's solved a real problem, even a small one, because it shows how you think. Anyone else's boss care more about a specific fix than a long list of skills?

I tried to make a simple game with Python and it crashed in a weird way

I was following a guide to make a number guessing game and used 'input()' to get the player's guess. When I typed a word instead of a number, the whole thing just stopped with a big error. I learned that 'input()' always gives you text, so you have to use 'int()' to change it to a number, but that can break. How do you guys handle it when someone types the wrong thing into your programs?

Appreciation post: my $300 pressure washer paid for itself in one afternoon

I was working on a 6.7 Powerstroke with a clogged EGR cooler. The old cooler was caked with soot and I knew cleaning it by hand would take hours. I bought a small electric pressure washer for about $300 last month, thinking it might help with general shop cleanup. I hooked it up with a degreaser mix and blasted that cooler clean in maybe 20 minutes. It came out looking almost new, and I saved the customer the cost of a whole new part. I'm finding more uses for it every week, like cleaning oil pans and engine blocks. What other shop tools have you guys bought that ended up being way more useful than you thought?

PSA: My kid's broken toy last week made me see loops in a new way

My son's remote control car stopped turning left, and I had to check each wire connection one by one. I was doing the same thing over and over, and it hit me that this is exactly what a 'for' loop does in code. I was manually running the loop instead of letting the computer do it. Has anyone else had a simple moment like that where a coding concept just clicked from real life?

I finally got my mom to stop using my comic books as coasters

She kept putting her coffee cups on my X-Men comics, leaving water rings on them. I bought her some nice coasters and told her how much these old books are worth. Now she always asks first, but I still see her looking at my Batman stuff.

My reply all mistake at work was a wake-up call

I was annoyed with a team decision and wrote a sharp email. Instead of sending it to just one coworker, I accidentally hit reply all. The entire department saw it, causing major embarrassment and conflict. Now I save angry messages as drafts and come back to them later, which has saved me from repeating that error.
