Found a cracked engine mount bushing on a Cessna 172 today
I was doing a routine 100-hour inspection on a 172 at KPDK this morning and noticed the engine mount bushing looked a little off. Pulled it apart and sure enough, there was a hairline crack running through the rubber. The owner said the plane felt a little rough on taxi but he thought it was just the pavement. Swapped it out in about 45 minutes and the vibration went away completely. Has anyone else caught a cracked bushing before the owner noticed any real issues?

Pick the owner's brain a little more about that rough taxi feel. Was it a specific kind of shake or more of a constant wobble? I'm curious if it felt different turning one direction versus the other, since the bad bushing would load up more on one side. Did he ever mention a little kick in the rudder pedals when he was rolling straight? That kind of detail helps separate a bushing issue from a tire balance problem down the road.

Rough on taxi" is a good clue. Read a guy on another forum who caught one the same way.
