Ray at the hangar in Wichita finally let me torque the spar bolts myself
Ray, a 30 year A&P out at our hangar in Wichita, stood behind me with his arms crossed while I torqued the spar bolts on a Cessna 172 last Tuesday. When I finished he checked every one with a breakaway torque wrench and just nodded, then said "that's the first time I didn't have to redo one of yours." Small thing, but I've been chasing his sign-off for 8 months and it felt good. Any of you old heads remember when your lead finally stopped hovering over your shoulder?
Did Ray ever tell you why he hovered so long? Half the old guys I know do it because they got burned once by somebody they trusted too quick. His nod probably means more than the torque spec did.
