The week I found a cracked engine mount on a 172 and my whole crew stayed late to help
Back in 2009 I was working line maintenance at a small field outside Tulsa and we had a Skyhawk come in for a 100 hour. I was doing the inspection solo when I spotted a hairline crack on the engine mount near the lower left bolt, and my stomach just dropped. I called the lead over and he looked at it for a long time and then said 'good catch' and grabbed a flashlight to check the rest. Next thing I know three other guys finish their shifts and stick around to help pull the mount and check the airframe, nobody asked them to. We wrapped up around 9pm and the owner bought us all pizza the next day. Has anyone else had a crew jump in like that, or is that just the old days?
Engine mounts are one of those things where a hairline turns into a real problem fast, so good on you for catching it before it spread. Crews that stick around past quitting time for a plane that isn't even theirs are rare, hold onto that bunch.
