I quit being the guy who says yes to every shift and my old team still calls me selfish
I used to pick up every extra shift at the shop, like 6 days a week for almost 2 years straight, because I thought saying no would get me fired. Back in March I started saying no to the Sunday shifts and now I work 4 days, 10 hours, and I actually sleep. My old coworker Dana texted me saying I left them hanging and that real team players show up. I still hit my numbers, I just don't come in on my day off anymore. I mean, is it quitting if I stayed at the same job but quit the extra hours? Kind of feels like the same thing and I can't tell if I'm the jerk here.
That guilt trip from Dana is wild, you're literally still on the same team just not working yourself into the ground! I did the same thing at my old cafe job and my manager acted like I betrayed everyone, but guess what, the place didn't burn down and I finally stopped being tired all the time.
