Just passed 1000 short story submissions and the number hit me weird

I've been sending out flash fiction and short stories to lit mags for about 3 years now. Kept a spreadsheet for tax stuff and just realized last night I'm at 1,017 submissions. That's a lot of rejections (like 900 of them probably). But also 62 acceptances I never would have gotten if I stopped after the first 100. The milestone surprised me because I never thought of myself as that persistent. Has anyone else tracked their submission count and had it change how you see your own work?

My neighbor Bob, who works in IT, told me last month to never reuse passwords across important sites like my bank and email. I thought he was being overly cautious, but then I got a fake email claiming to be from my credit card company. Rooster aggression changed my mind about keeping him

I was dead set on keeping my rooster Charlie because he was so protective of the hens. Then last Tuesday morning in my backyard in Austin, he flew at my leg and drew blood through my jeans. I realized he was getting worse, not better, so I rehomed him to a farm 20 miles out of town. The flock is calmer now and my kids can go outside without me watching the door. Has anyone else had a rooster turn on them like that out of nowhere?

I used to think micromanagers were just control freaks until my 3 month stint under Donna at the main post office

Back in February I got transferred to a bigger station with a supervisor who checked every single scan I did before I even left the building. I was ready to quit after two weeks because I thought she didn't trust me at all. Then one day she pulled me aside and showed me how my route had been mis-sorted by the morning crew for months and I was losing 45 minutes every day fixing it. Her checking my work wasn't about controlling me, it was about catching the system failures that were making my life harder. After she helped me build a new loop order I was finishing my route by 2pm instead of 4pm. Now I actually ask her to double check my new routes before I run them. Has anyone else had a boss who seemed awful at first but was actually saving you from a bigger mess?

DAE notice a huge shift in how long it takes to sell a slabbed book these days?

Honestly, two years ago I could list a 9.8 key issue on eBay and get a sale within 48 hours. Now I'm sitting on a copy of a major first appearance for over three weeks with barely a watcher. I think the market just got flooded with people cracking and submitting their own books during the pandemic. Has anyone else seen their average sale time drag out this bad?

Bought a pull saw from a specialty shop in Seattle for $70 and it blew my mind. First cut on some baseboard trim was so clean I didnt even need sandpaper. Has anyone else switched from western saws to pull saws for finish work?

I was cutting a big limb on a client's oak last Tuesday in Austin when my friend laughed and said my cuts looked like a beaver did them. He handed me his sharpened Felco 2s and I cut through a 2-inch branch like butter - now I sharpen every Sunday.

Pro tip: That $35 moisture meter saved me from a $4k mold remediation

I ignored a musty smell in my laundry room for like 4 months (figured it was just abq dust or whatever). Bought a cheap pinless moisture meter on a whim after a friend nagged me about it. Poked around the drywall near the washer and got a reading of 22% where it should be like 8-10%. Turns out a pinhole leak in the supply line had been slowly soaking the wall for who knows how long. Caught it early enough that I just had to cut out a 2x2 section of drywall and replace some insulation. Total fix cost me maybe $60 in materials. I worked at a small office supply store in Portland for about 6 months. One slow Tuesday, my manager handed me a jar of 500 paper clips and told me to count them by hand because 'the machine could be wrong.'
