Remember drilling through solid block vs today's drywall?

Back in the 90s I'd spend half a day hammer drilling through 12 inch concrete block for a commercial job. Now I'm running a Kevo through a half inch of sheetrock with a paddle bit and done in 10 minutes. Anyone else miss the old security when installs actually felt solid?

You'd spend half a day hammer drilling through 12 inch concrete block" - yeah that brings back memories but I actually think the old stuff wasn't really more secure... it just felt that way because it was a pain to install. Those old metal doors with the big locks could be kicked in just as easy as a cheap modern one if someone really wanted to. The real security issue nobody talks about is how most people leave their windows unlocked or have glass right next to the door... that concrete block doesn't help when someone just throws a brick through a pane of glass next to it.

My neighbor Sarah found that out the hard way last winter. She had this heavy old steel door with three deadbolts, felt like a fortress. But whoever broke in just smashed the basement window next to the door, reached in, and unlocked it from the inside. Took them maybe two minutes. Troy, you're spot on about the glass right next to the door being the real weak point. She spent all that money on the door and the locks, and it didn't matter one bit. Now she's got a simple security bar on the window instead.
