Dropped $120 on a seasonal anime streaming box, then realized fansubs were still better

I bought that all-in-one anime box from the mall kiosk last November because it promised every simulcast, but the subs were so stiff that I went back to the free fan sites after two episodes, so has anyone else burned cash on those plug-in players or am I the only one who fell for it?
