Just learned that one animator spent 3 years on a single scene in 'Akira'

I was reading this breakdown on SakugaBooru and found out the famous bike slide scene took over 600 hand drawn frames. Three years of some guy's life just for like 8 seconds of screen time. Has anyone else stumbled on a crazy production stat that blew their mind?

Man, that Akira stat never gets old. The bike slide alone is an absolute masterpiece of effort. It's one of those things that really makes you appreciate what goes into a single second of animation. Makes me think about that infamous 10 minute sequence in the original Ghost in the Shell movie where they had to hand paint all the reflections on the water with real oil paints on cels, taking the whole team weeks just for that one shot. Sometimes the most invisible details are the ones that cost the most time and money.
