Paid $60 for a full season box set, the subs were machine translated
I grabbed a complete series of a 90s mecha show at a con in Cleveland last month, thought I was getting a steal. Turns out the company that put it out just ran the Japanese script through a free translator, so half the dialogue reads like a wiring diagram written by a drunk uncle. Has anyone else gotten burned on discount anime box sets, or is there a reliable way to spot these bootlegs before dropping cash?

Bought a Gundam knockoff at a flea market in Tulsa for $35, and the subtitles kept switching between "enemy attack" and "bad guy boom". I feel your pain, these fake sets are everywhere now, especially at cons where folks just wanna grab something quick. You got a way to check the company name before you buy, or do you just roll the dice like me?
