Rant: My old DVD box set of Gundam Wing skips every time at episode 37

Pulled out my old Gundam Wing box set last Saturday for a rewatch since I finally got a proper TV again. Disk 4 has this scratch pattern that makes episode 37 freeze right during the Wing Zero reveal, every single time. I tried cleaning it with toothpaste and a soft cloth like someone suggested on here, but it just made the skip worse. Ended up finding a fansub rip online that looks worse than my DVD but at least it plays. Anyone else still holding onto physical anime media that's slowly dying on them?

Figured I'd be a physical media purist forever, but after my Cowboy Bebop set started skipping on the last disc, I totally get it. Now I just keep the DVDs for the shelf and watch the files, no shame in it.
