Went to the new anime cafe in Seattle and the merch prices are crazy

I checked out the 'Nexus Point' pop-up cafe downtown last weekend. They had a cool Neon Genesis Evangelion theme, but a single keychain was $35 and a basic t-shirt was $65. It feels like they're really banking on fan hype to justify those numbers. Has anyone found a good spot for official merch that doesn't cost a full day's pay?

Saw a post about that place, the markup on imported goods must be insane. Maybe check out some smaller shops in the International District?

My wallet already hurts just thinking about it. The smaller shops are definitely the move for better prices. I've learned that lesson the expensive way.

Derek (I think? @derek_schmidt), you're totally right about those smaller shops. I used to think bigger pop-up events like that Nexus Point thing were the only way to get cool themed stuff, but seeing a plain t-shirt for $65 really changed my mind. I wandered into a spot called Pink Gorilla in the ID last week, and they had Evangelion pins for like $8 and actual import figures for way less. So yeah, I'm converted now, those pop-up prices just aren't worth it.
