Why does nobody talk about how we used to hunt for anime at Suncoast...

I used to drive 40 minutes to the Suncoast in the mall just to see if they had the next DVD volume of whatever I was watching, and half the time it was sold out. Now I pull up a streaming app on my couch and every season from the last 20 years is just sitting there. Part of me misses reading the back of the box to decide if a show was worth $25, does anyone else still buy physical releases for that reason?

Gotta disagree with the nostalgia take on this one. Reading the back of a box told you almost nothing real, it was just marketing copy that made every show sound like the greatest thing ever made, and you still ended up with a $25 dud half the time. I remember buying the first volume of some mecha show because the box art looked cool and the summary promised epic battles, and it turned out to be six episodes of nothing happening. Streaming lets me watch two minutes and bail if it stinks, which saved me so much money and regret over the years. The hunt was fun, sure, but it was fun the way waiting in line is fun, mostly just something you did because there was no other choice.
