A guy in the truck next to me said he clocks out at 3:01 on the dot and does not care who sees
I was loading panels at a job in Mesa last Tuesday and the installer parked beside me said his old boss fired him for leaving at 3:35 instead of 4. So now he hits the clock at 3:01, takes his full 30, and lets the boss eat the overtime he never pays. I used to stay late to look good, and all I got was a pizza party and a bad back. So what is the move here, do you leave when the shift ends or do you keep giving it away for free?
Had a guy on a framing crew years back who would stop swinging his hammer at 2:58, walk to the truck, and sit there watching the rest of us finish up. Everybody talked trash about him but he was the only one who never got hurt on that job. Pulled his back twice staying late for a company that laid him off two weeks after he did it. There is a lesson buried in there somewhere and I keep forgetting it every time a boss buys lunch.
