People keep saying you need a special license for a truck over 26,000 pounds, but that's not the full story.
The real rule is about the vehicle's Gross Vehicle Weight Rating, not what you actually haul, and I've seen three new drivers this year get fined for not knowing that. Anyone else run into this kind of mix-up at the weigh station?

Wait, you mean people don't know about GVWR? That's like day one stuff. I see it all the time, guys think if the truck is empty they're fine. The plate on the door is what matters, not your load. Those tickets are no joke either, costs a fortune. Really sucks for the new drivers who get caught out.

Yeah, I used to be one of those guys who thought an empty truck meant you were safe. How wrong was I? Got schooled by an old timer at a weigh station after a close call. Now I check that door sticker every single time before I even roll out. That plate doesn't care if you're hauling air or bricks, the number is the number. It really should be hammered into new drivers harder.
