I was totally against those acoustic panel things until last week
My upstairs neighbor got a new subwoofer for his gaming setup and I was about to lose my mind. The whole wall shook every night around 9 PM and I couldn't hear my TV over the bass. My buddy Jake from work kept telling me to try those foam wedge panels but I thought they were just for music studios and looked stupid. Finally caved and spent $40 on a 12 pack off Amazon and stuck them on the wall between our apartments. First night the bass was way less punchy and I could actually watch my shows without cranking the volume. Still hear some thumping but it's like 60% better which is wild for foam squares. Anyone else tried these or found something else that works for low frequency noise?

Ngl those foam wedges are hit or miss for low end but they work way better than people give them credit for when you position them right. I threw a couple panels in the corner of my room behind my desk and it knocked down the worst of the boominess from my neighbor's system downstairs. For $40 it's worth trying before dropping cash on those heavy bass traps that cost like $200 each.

Yeah, I feel you @rivera.jake. I tried those cheap foam panels in a weird spot in my room - right on the wall behind my monitor at ear level - and it actually helped clean up some harsh reflections from my desktop speakers. Didn't fix everything, but for like $30 it made a noticeable difference on those tinny high frequencies. I figure it's a good way to test if acoustic treatment even matters in your space before you go all in.
