Used to hate my upstairs neighbor until I spent 3 hours in her apartment

Finally had a leak from her unit into my bathroom, so I had to go up there with the super. Her floor is basically my ceiling and she walks like a normal person, totally changed how I hear sounds. Has anyone else changed their mind about a neighbor after seeing their side?

...and the funny thing is I used to tell myself she was stomping around on purpose, like she had it out for me. Then I get up there and see she's got this big ol' area rug and these fluffy slippers she wears all the time. Her walking around is actually quieter than my cat jumping off the bed. Really made me realize how much the building itself messes with how sound travels, not the actual person. Now when I hear her moving around I just think about how that sound is probably way louder in my place than it is in hers. Definitely a wake up call to stop jumping to conclusions about people.

Is there anything more humbling than realizing you were the problem all along? I had a similar thing with my neighbor's dog barking - turned out it was just echoing off the alleyway between our buildings. It's wild how much we fill in the blanks with the worst possible story when we're annoyed.
