I used to think every fridge compressor needed a hard start kit, but a seminar in Kansas City changed my approach.
Now I only install them after checking the LRA and voltage drop, which has cut my callback rate by half. Anyone else find they're being used as a band-aid too often?

Man, that's a solid point. I was definitely the guy throwing start kits at every noisy fridge for a while. Felt like a hero until the callbacks started rolling in. Turns out half of them just had a bad fan motor or were plugged into a 50-foot extension cord. Checking the actual numbers first saves so much hassle.

Totally get that feeling, lilyb27. The rush to fix something can make you skip the basics. Learning to check the simple stuff first saves your reputation in the long run.
