I used to think those cheap multimeters from Harbor Freight were total junk, but one saved my bacon on a fridge call last week.

The homeowner's fancy Fluke was reading weird on the compressor, so I grabbed my $7 backup just to double check. It showed the correct open winding the Fluke missed because of a bad fuse inside it. Anyone else had a tool they wrote off surprise them like that?

Funny how the cheapest stuff sometimes outlasts the fancy gear. It's like we overthink quality and ignore the tool that just works. Maybe the best backup is the one you don't even trust.

My cheap backup flashlight outlasted three expensive ones already.

Yeah, that "wrote off" thing hits home... my buddy swore his old cordless drill from a yard sale was a paperweight. He only kept it as a backup beater. Then his good drill died in the middle of hanging a door, and that old one just kept going. He said it sounded awful but drove every last screw without quitting. It's still his go-to for dirty jobs.
