That guy who blamed me for his burnt out washing machine motor still bothers me

Older fella over in Glendale called me out to look at his top loader. Said it was making a grinding noise. Get there and pull the belt off, try to spin the drum by hand and it's locked up tight. Told him the motor bearings are shot and he needs a new one. He flips out saying I must have broken it while testing it. Like dude I just took the belt off and turned the pulley. Kept insisting I was lying and trying to rip him off. Stood there in his garage for 20 minutes while he yelled at me. Finally handed him his service call fee and left. Anyone else get blamed for something that was already broke when you showed up?

Yeah that whole 'you broke it' accusation is rough, I had a guy swear I shorted out his fridge just by plugging it in.

Wait, he actually blamed you for that? That's nuts. Like, fridges have their own internal wiring and breakers, they don't just fry because someone plugged them in. I had a guy once swear I cracked his toilet seat just by sitting on it. He was dead serious too, said I 'must have shifted my weight wrong.' People get weird about appliances when they're already looking for a reason to complain. Your mileage may vary, but I'd take that as a red flag about the customer more than anything wrong with your work.
