Spent $400 on a high-end silky saw and now I'm wondering if I should've just gotten a cheap one
I bought a Silky Zubat 330mm for $400 last spring for clearing storm damage in Portland. It cuts through wet maple like butter, but the blade dulled fast on a single oak limb with grit in the bark. Now I'm looking at $60 replacement blades and wondering if a $100 folding saw with cheaper blades would've been smarter long term. Anyone else swap their expensive gear for low cost alternatives? How'd that work out?

That $400 saw better come with a free hand massage afterwards. Sounds like you paid for a "limited edition regret package".

Read a review from a arborist forum that said the same thing, the Zubat is amazing until you hit one dirty branch and it's game over. @miab16 is kinda right about the regret part, I swapped my expensive Silky for a $50 Corona Razor Tooth and honestly haven't looked back. The blades are like $12 each and I don't cry when one gets wrecked on a hidden nail or grit from a storm tree. That high end saw is awesome for clean cuts in the garden, but for real work in rough conditions the cheap ones make more sense long term.
