A volunteer at the Mesa Verde dig last summer told me he finds more pottery shards after a heavy rain, which seems obvious now but I'd never connected the weather to surface finds before.
Has anyone else had a simple field observation from a colleague completely shift how you look for artifacts?

Honestly, I always thought that was just luck until someone pointed it out to me too.

Honestly that feels like basic common sense to me, not some big revelation. I've always factored recent weather into my survey plans, checking drainage patterns and erosion zones after any storm. It just seems like paying attention to your environment, not a special trick.
