Spotted a weird stone pattern at the Cahokia Mounds visitor center
Last week, I was at the Cahokia Mounds visitor center in Illinois and saw a display about how they map the old city layout. It got me thinking about how much has changed since I first visited three years ago. Back then, most of the talk was about the big mounds, but now they're using ground-penetrating radar to find whole neighborhoods we never knew were there. Just last month, they announced they'd found over 100 new house sites using that tech. It's wild to see a place I thought was fully explored keep giving up new secrets. Anyone else visited a site recently and been surprised by how much the story has changed?

Makes me realize how much we think we know about a place is just the surface stuff. Saw the same thing when they redid the local history museum, turns out our whole downtown was built over older streets.
