inMy first solo client call in my new marketing role went totally silent for 45 seconds
That line about your brain proving it can work without the slides really hit home. I've had similar moments where the tech dies and suddenly I'm just talking, and it's weirdly freeing. Nothing beats that feeling when you realize you actually know your stuff cold, even if your laptop doesn't.

inThe great shutter curtain glue choice of 2023
... honestly I feel like people overthink this stuff sometimes. I mean yeah rubber cement has solvents but we're talking about a tiny dab on an old silk curtain not a whole bottle. Two days of dry time in a ventilated room should be plenty for that amount. I've used rubber cement on fabric camera parts before and never had issues unless I got sloppy with how much I applied. Plus the original factory glue was probably something similar anyway just older and more brittle. I think the real problem might have been the curtain alignment or a spring tension issue that was already there before the repair. But hey maybe I'm wrong and it really is some chemical mystery.

inSpotted a weird stone pattern at the Cahokia Mounds visitor center
Makes me realize how much we think we know about a place is just the surface stuff. Saw the same thing when they redid the local history museum, turns out our whole downtown was built over older streets.

inMy mortar mixer belt snapped halfway through a foundation job last Thursday
Yeah, mixing by hand in a wheelbarrow is a brutal way to spend an afternoon. @kelly.parker is right about Gates belts, they're solid. I always keep a spare Dayco belt in my truck too, the ones with the molded cogs seem to handle wet mortar and shock loads a bit better for me.

inRant: Walked past the old Blockbuster in my hometown and it hit different
Ugh, you just described my cousin's last three jobs. He went from selling those phone cases to one of those weird mall knife sharpeners, then to a rug kiosk. Same sad energy every time.
