My neighbor saw my paint peeling and asked if I'd washed the siding first

I hadn't, and after power washing the old vinyl, the new coat has stuck for over a year now. Anyone have a good method for cleaning wood siding before staining?

That power washing trick saved my own paint job too.

Doubt it's that big a deal most of the time. My dad just used a stiff brush and some soapy water before staining his place. Worked fine for years.
