The $3 thrift store lamp that sparked a 3 month electrical learning spiral

Last Tuesday I picked up a crusty old brass lamp from a Goodwill in Portland for $3.50. Got it home, stripped the wiring, and found a totally illegible patent stamp from 1947. Three weeks later I've rebuilt it with new cloth cord and matching period-correct socket. Has anyone else gone way too deep into restoring some random thrift find?

Did you almost electrocute yourself rewiring it like I did with my old fan?

I used to think old wiring was fine but @juliagonzalez definitely changed my mind after almost frying myself lmao.
